Rehydrate and Look Great with a Glycolic Peel

If you’re looking to reduce signs of ageing or sun damage, improve your skin’s texture and even reduce fine lines, a glycolic peel might be the solution!

What is a Glycolic Peel?

A glycolic peel, also known as a chemical peel, is a rehydrating facial treatment that works by removing dead skin cells and brining the pH of the skin to an optimum level. In practice, the peel is a solution that is applied to the skin, removing the top layer and encouraging the production of new elastin and collagen. This process can result in:

  • A reduction of lines and wrinkles

  • An evening of any discolouration

  • A reduction in age spots and unwanted freckles

  • A smoother skin texture

  • Less oily skin

  • More hydrated skin

  • A reduction in the appearance of mild scarring

  • A treatment for mild ache

What’s Involved?

The treatment begins with a deep clean of the skin to be treated. A chemical solution is then safely applied to the treatment area, creating a mild wound. This wound will then heal and encourage the growth of new, healthy skin.

A single treatment can result in improvements to the skin’s appearance, but the best results are usually seen after repeated treatments over time. Depending on the deepness of the peel, these treatments may be repeated at intervals from one week to six months.

Does a Glycolic Peel Hurt?

Patients undergoing the treatment usually feel a mild burning sensation followed by stinging that may last for a little while after completed. Very deep treatments may require pain medication if the stinging continues.

What Happens After the Treatment?

People may experience redness and mild scaling that usually ends within a few days (effects similar to mild sunburn). Deeper peels have the potential to result in swelling and mile blisters, but these possible effects will be discussed in detail before any treatments are undertaken.

Bandages may need to be worn for a few days after the treatment, and we highly recommend avoiding the sun for several months, allowing new skin to be unaffected by harmful rays.

Are There Risks?

As with all skin treatments, some people may experience side effects or unwanted results. We will always discuss your skin type, health and family history with you to determine if you are at risk from any potential negative outcomes.
